Young students led the Ivy Kids system in donations while learning empathy, generosity and service through hands-on giving
At Ivy Kids of Johns Creek, giving back is not just something students hear about. It is something they get to experience.
This spring, students, families and staff at the early learning center came together to collect and donate approximately 13,000 diapers to local nonprofit, Helping Mamas, Georgia’s largest baby supply bank serving families across the state.
The donation was delivered during a student field trip to Helping Mamas, giving young children the opportunity to see firsthand how small acts of kindness can create a meaningful impact for families in need.
World Changers® Character Development
The diaper drive was part of Ivy Kids’ larger World Changers® Character Development Program, which teaches children values such as empathy, kindness, leadership and social responsibility alongside academic growth. Ivy Kids of Johns Creek led all participating Ivy Kids centers this year with the highest individual center donation total.
“For us, this was never just about collecting diapers,” said Karim Badani, owner of Ivy Kids of Johns Creek. “It was about teaching our students that they are never too young to make a difference. When children learn empathy, service, and generosity early, those values stay with them. This is exactly the kind of real-world learning we want our students to experience.”
Essential help at the right time
The donation came at an important time for Helping Mamas, which has been working to meet increased demand for diapers and essential baby supplies. WSB-TV Channel 2 reported that Helping Mamas had recently distributed more than 230,000 diapers in April alone, while also facing increased need from families across the metro Atlanta area.
The Ivy Kids of Johns Creek donation was also featured by FOX 5 Atlanta, which highlighted the students’ visit to Helping Mamas and the importance of encouraging children to give back at a young age. Yahoo News also shared coverage of the diaper bank shortage and Ivy Kids’ contribution.
Whole-child development and lifelong lessons
At Ivy Kids of Johns Creek, the diaper drive reflects a larger mission: developing the whole child. Along with its early childhood curriculum, the school emphasizes character, emotional development, leadership and community involvement.
“Children are capable of understanding more than we sometimes give them credit for,” Badani said. “When we explain that some families may not have the basic supplies they need, and then give our students a way to help, they rise to the occasion. That is what makes this so special.”
