Student Leadership NORTH’s Class of 2027 and Rising Leaders are making a lasting impact through community service
The Student Leadership NORTH Class of 2027 — made up of students from Alpharetta, Centennial, Chattahoochee, Johns Creek and Northview high schools, along with Innovation Academy, Providence Christian-Johns Creek, Mt. Pisgah and the organization’s new one-year Rising Leaders Program — has wrapped up their year with a remarkable demonstration of leadership and community service through group projects.
All of the projects and participants will be celebrated at an event held at Mt. Pisgah School on March 25.
History, innovation and collaboration
Throughout the year, the young leaders undertook a total of 26 group projects, leaving a lasting impact on various facets of the North Fulton community. From collaborative efforts with local organizations to innovative initiatives within schools, the class of 2027 showcased their commitment to making a difference in their community.

One such collaboration was between several of the groups and Professor Katherine Perrotta from Mercer University, who worked with students on local history research projects.
For the third time, Student Leadership NORTH received Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources funding to produce their student-driven podcast series “History in our Backyard.” Season two of the series had the 2027 cohort researching and recording episodes that explore Georgia’s history from its pre-colonial origins through the American Revolution and the formation of the republic.
The season is timed to align with America250, the national initiative commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, and will draw on the Library of Congress’s digital archives to produce episodes accompanied by classroom-ready educational materials.

“This funding allows our students to dive deep into Georgia’s fascinating history while developing critical research, writing and communication skills,” said Executive Director Irene Sanders.
The completed episodes will be available on major podcast platforms in April, 2026.
Community partners and civic responsibility
The Student Leadership NORTH class of 2027 also demonstrated a sense of civic responsibility by partnering with organizations such as the Travis Manion Project, honoring veterans; One Johns Creek; Champions Place; FurKids; Lake Windward Elementary special needs students; The Arts Center of Johns Creek and several senior living centers.

Through these collaborations, they contributed to the betterment of the community while also working to improve their leadership skills.
“We are immensely proud of the hard work and dedication exhibited by the students of the class of 2027,” said Sanders. “Their passion for service and commitment to effect positive change is truly inspiring.”
