McGinnis Ferry Road project
The City of Johns Creek recently shared an update on the McGinnis Ferry Road project. Done in partnership with Forsyth County and the Georgia Department of Transportation, the project will widen the roadway from two to four lanes between Douglas Road and Hospital Parkway. The bridge over Caney Creek is also scheduled to be replaced with a box culvert.
Sidewalks and trails included with the project will connect residents to the Big Creek Greenway in the future.
The current phase one (eastern portion) of the two-phase project to widen the road from Ronald Reagan Boulevard to Hospital Parkway is expected to take three years.
Latest update: Utilities, retaining walls and stormwater pipes continue to be installed. Clearing along the project route has been completed.
Upcoming: Retaining wall construction and stormwater utility installation will continue throughout the next several weeks.
Construction is expected to be completed in spring 2028.
Johns Creek Parkway project
As of December 19, 2025, crews have finished 650 linear feet of the 10-foot trail within the median along Johns Creek Parkway. Additional portions of the curb and gutter have also been completed.
Crews will continue to work on the trails and installing curb on gutter on the western, Life Time Fitness side of the roadway. Traffic will remain on the Medley side (eastern side) until all paving and striping work is complete on the western side.
Construction is expected to be completed this spring.
Barnwell Road corridor improvements
Per the city’s website, utility locations have been identified, and survey work has been completed as part of the Barnwell Road at Niblick Drive and Trail project. Crews have begun clearing the route and a silt fence will be installed to help control stormwater runoff. The relocation of utilities will be done in the next few weeks.
Construction is expected to be completed in spring 2027.
Medlock Bridge Road pedestrian crossing and tunnel
According to the city’s January 15 update, crews have completed backfilling around the tunnel, finished grading the walls and poured asphalt on the roadway on the eastern side of the tunnel.
Medlock Bridge Road northbound and southbound lanes are scheduled to shift towards the east side of Medlock Bridge from Johns Creek Parkway to East Johns Crossing beginning the week of January 19 to prepare for work on the western side of the pedestrian crossing and tunnel.
The speed limit is reduced from 45 mph to 35 mph in the area.
Construction is expected to be completed this spring.
Abbotts Bridge Road (from Parsons Road to Medlock Bridge)
As of January 26, crews have installed sidewalk, curb and gutter in sections along Abbotts Bridge Road. They will continue to construct the retaining wall at the curve and will install stacked stone on several other walls throughout the project route.
Construction is expected to be completed in spring 2027.
